Our English Tutors

We are experienced and qualified English teachers providing small and friendly tuition sessions in Reading, Berkshire. We have worked in local Good and Outstanding schools and have knowledge of the school curriculum and the requirements of exam boards.

Our experience enables us to support and extend the English skills taught in school so that children improve their spelling, punctuation and grammar, creative writing, reading and analysis of texts, plus planning and structuring assessment answers.

Sara

Sara has worked in primary and secondary schools, teaching English Language and English Literature up to A’ level. Her specific focus on how children learn and progress, together with extensive training in how to support children with special educational needs, is key to how she will tailor her tutoring to suit your child.

As Head of KS4 English Sara was responsible for entering students in the most appropriate GCSE English exam. She will use her knowledge of the exam specifications to make texts more relevant and interesting to students, whatever their age. Having taught A level she can help sixth form students hone their essay writing, revision and exam techniques.

Maureen

Maureen has taught English Language, English Literature and Media Studies to students of all abilities from Year 7 English through to Year 13. She has held responsibility as KS3 English Curriculum support and can help children make a smooth progression from KS2 to KS3, developing their skills and enjoyment of the subject. She is also experienced in preparing students for their English examinations.

Your child will be encouraged to develop personal learning strategies to enhance their revision skills, exam techniques and improve grades. She will also focus on extending your child’s creative approach to writing and reading analysis. She has run book clubs for children and understands the value of children engaging with literature.

Sara and Maureen have both worked outside education – in Media and Law – and understand the benefits of having strong English skills. These are important for success in SATs, the 11+, Entrance Exams, the new GCSE specification, at A-Level, in Further Education, Higher Education and in the workplace.
